Circuit Playhouse becomes
The Evergreen Theatre

By Pat Bogan

As the new Playhouse on the Square has opened in the Midtown community, Circuit Playhouse has also unveiled a new name, new look, and new opportunities for innovative and emerging artists in the local Memphis area, complementing and supplementing TheatreWorks. The Evergreen Theatre, as historic as the name and the community in which it resides, will provide additional space for shows and performances by local theater and dance resident companies. This expansion will continue to fulfill the mission of providing economical space for new and emerging artists as well as for the resident arts groups that already share the space.[singlepic id=140 w=320 h=240 mode=web20 float=right]

Currently in residence are Project Motion, Our Own Voice, Emerald Theatre Company, Ballet On Wheels, New Moon Theatre Company, Voices of the South, and Bluff City Tri-Art Theatre Company.

A ribbon cutting ceremony occurred February 14th. Board members from Theatreworks and the resident companies were on hand to formally receive the keys from the board of Playhouse on the Square. Tours of the “new” facility were given. As the Theaterworks Board President, I am ecstatic about the wonderful success of the Theatreworks facility, which has consistently been booked two years in advance. Finally, others will be able to take advantage of what we have to offer.

Midtown has much to offer to the theater arts and dance. With a new name and new oppor-tunities for local artists, Evergreen is just what its name implies for the art aficionado in us all.
