Rain dampens turnout for community yard sale
By Nannette Davis
The forecast was for rain and storms all day long, and that was what we got at the Second Annual Cooper-Young Community Yard Sale on Saturday, April 24th. Thankfully, Memphis was spared the devastating storms that destroyed Yazoo, MS. Our event was advertised as “rain or shine,” and some households held true to that and put their treasures out for sale on their porches and under their carports. True bargain hunters never let a little rain hold them back from finding that item that they want for just the right price.
Several households waited until Sunday when the weather was much more agreeable. Many also committed to holding their sales the following Saturday. Thanks to all the CYCA members who participated and were the first to utilize our online listing in the classified section of our website cooperyoung.org. Thanks, also, to Haynes Knight, the volunteer organizer of this year’s sale and to Henry Lewis and Kevin Hill, who created our posters and signs.
The CYCA will try again next year on the last Saturday in April.
