Cooper Young – Calling All Young Artists Show & Reception

A post-Cooper Young Festival event is the annual Young Artist Contest hosted by the Cooper Young Business Association to encourage the love of art in school age children.  This year’s theme is “Communities Coming Together.”  Reception for winners and artists will be held at Peabody Elementary located at 2086 Young Avenue on Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.

This contest is open to children, all over Memphis and surrounding communities, grades 1-12 and is sponsored by Lenny’s Sub Shop.  All work must be original and no larger in size than 12 inches by 18 inches. It may be mounted on construction paper, but should not be framed, mounted on stretch boards or overly heavy.  All work should not have been displayed or entered into another contest previously.

All entries will be on exhibit for viewing in the Peabody School cafeteria. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Three $500 First Place, Three $100 Second Place, Three $75 Third Place, and Three $50 Honorable Mention; one each for grades 1st – 4th, grades 5th – 8th, and grades 9th – 12th.  These scholarship bonds, awarded by Cooper Young Business Association, will be presented to all contest winners on the evening of the show at 6:30 pm.

Deadline for entries is Friday, October 22, 2010 at 3:00 pm. All entries must be delivered to the Cooper Young Business Association Office at 2120 Young Avenue – during office hours which are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday.  Please call Tamara Walker, Director of the Cooper Young Business Association, for additional information at 901-276-7222 or go to for an application.
