Annual handbag trade-in event to benefit local Dress for Success

By Erika Cain

With the Christmas holiday just a few weeks away, local nonprofits have started their annual
charity drives to benefit thousands of individuals in need. The Purse String is coordinating
an event to benefit Dress for Success, and they need the support of women in the greater
metropolitan area. On Saturday, December 4, from 10am–6pm, women can drop off their
gently used handbags and accessories at the Courtyard by Marriott at Lenox Park (on Kirby
Pkwy). All who donate handbags will receive 15% off new custom handbags and accessories
from The Purse String.

“We are so excited to host this event and have selected Dress for Success as this year’s charity
because of the countless hours they put into making women feel inspired and prepared for
the success they desire throughout their career,” says Carolyn Owens, co-owner of The Purse
String. “Often times our closets are full of accessories we no longer use, such as handbags
and scarves, but these items may be considered a treasure to a woman on a fixed budget.”
The Purse String is an online boutique that offers tons of fashionable, custom handbags,
jewelry, scarves, and other accessories that help make up an overall trendy wardrobe. The
Purse String supports causes for the betterment of women, such as breast cancer research
and women in need.

The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged
women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and career development tools
to help women thrive in work and in life. “We are asking women to come out and support this
great giving opportunity by bringing their favorite handbags they no longer use every day and
put a smile on another woman’s face,” says Latasha Williams, co-owner of The Purse String.
All donated items are asked to be clean and in good condition at time of donation.
