Ken Murphy and Scott Baretta will be at Burke’s Book Store on Thursday, February 3, from 5:30-6:30pm to sign copies of their coffee table book, Mississippi: State of the Blues (Proteus/Murphy Publishing, $59.95). This event coincides with the monthly First Thursday Night Out in Cooper-Young.
This book is a commentary on the state of blues music in Mississippi, and it is a blend of two insightful minds coming from two different angles. With the publication of this book the sights, soul, and wisdom of the blues scene are all captured.
Ken Murphy is a commercial/art photographer. In 2006 he received the MAC Katrina Business Grant and in 2007 a grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
Scott Barretta is the former editor of the Swedish blues magazine Jefferson and Living Blues. He is the host of the radio show Highway 61, writes a blues column for the Clarion Ledger, and has served as researcher/writer for the Mississippi Blues Trail and the B. B. King Museum. He lives in Oxford, Mississippi.
