Cooper-Young for Clean Water update
By Ginger Spickler
As you may recall from the December LampLighter, Neighborhood Church issued a challenge to the community to help us raise $5,000 – the entire cost of drilling a well for a village in the Upper Amazon of Peru where the Candoshi people live. We knew that the Cooper-Young for Clean Water project was ambitious. After all, our small church in years past had only raised a little over $500 annually. But we also knew that CY is a neighborhood with a big heart, so we were hopeful.
After all the money came in – from the church and church members, from family members who gave donations to Living Water in lieu of Christmas presents, from the kids of the church and Ms. Boyd’s 4th grade class at Peabody Elementary who donated “Pennies for Peru”, and of course, from you, our friends and neighbors – we are thrilled to report that over $6,200 was raised in less than a month!
Drilling on the well is expected to commence soon, and as we learn more details we will continue to provide updates here in the LampLighter. But for now, we just want to thank you from the bottom of our collective heart for rising to this challenge. We are so grateful to our community for stepping up to help another community at Christmas time.
