Sports fans to ‘Huddle’ for Memphis Habitat

By Lauren Hannaford

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis invites Memphians to “huddle up” for its seventh annual Home Team Huddle fundraising event. Presented by Matrix Achievement Group, Home Team Huddle parties will take place Sunday, February 6, during the biggest professional football game of the year.

Participants in Home Team Huddle are asked to host a “Super Sunday” party and collect donations for Memphis Habitat during halftime. All proceeds go directly to the local affiliate and help further Habitat’s mission of eliminating substandard and poverty housing in the Memphis community. Memphis Habitat’s 2011 Home Team Huddle goal is to reach 100 parties and raise at least $20,000.

Individual party hosts and guests will become eligible for Home Team Huddle’s grand prize of a weekend getaway to an NFL city next season. This getaway will include round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and two tickets to the NFL game of their choice. Hosts raising the most money will also be eligible for other prizes.

Party hosts who sign up by February 4 will receive their own Home Team Party Pack designed to help promote and build excitement around the parties. The pack includes an official Home Team Huddle T-shirt, beverage coasters, event poster, stickers and other giveaways for party guests, a collection envelope, and ideas for helping promote the event.

This year, Memphis Habitat also is encouraging area businesses to host office “huddles,” where they ask employees to donate $5 in return for a company perk, such as wearing jeans to the office one day.
