Festival race improves with age

By Chris McHaney

September 16, 2011 will be an exciting evening in the Cooper-Young Community! At 7pm the Cooper-Young Festival Friday 4 Miler, presented by Bluff City Sports, will begin! This annual event helps kick off the Cooper-Young Festival and has some exciting improvements in store.

We are very thankful for the great feedback we received after last year’s 4 Miler, and we want to let you know that we are looking to make our 20th running one of the best races of the year! Here is a sampling of some of the improvements we’ve made to wet your appetite and get you excited for the race.

Greening the 4 Miler

You will notice recycle containers at the race site this year! And for the first time ever we will be offering a bike valet for those of you who would like to avoid the parking mania and get a great warm up at the same time.

Mile marker awareness
Our Neighbors Light the Way parties will have lettering (A, B, C, etc.) instead of numbers.

Better goodie bags
New this year – BioFreeze Samples, Powerbar Gel or Chew, RedStar Sunglass gift cards, and much more! We don’t like weak goodie bags either!

The bare necessities
Can we say double the porta potties? Ok, we just did! Also, we have increased the amount and availability of water.

Announcement news
We have made improvements to our sound system so that you will be able to clearly hear the smooth voice of our race announcer, Ric Chetter from RadioMemphis.com.

Other race highlights
•    State-of-the-art Jaguar disposable bib-tag timing provided by Start 2 Finish Timing
•    LCD screens at the start/finish line
•    Post-race party entertainment by The Memphis Snake Doctors blues band
•    Staggered start
•    More parties along the race route to cheer you to the finish line
•    Our great race art on long sleeve dri-balance race shirts
•    Early race packet pick-up at 3 locations to be announced soon!
