March Letter from the President

As I got up on this beautiful Saturday morning to write my monthly letter, I noticed that my husband was heading out the door already. When I asked him where he was going so early, he said that some neighbors had locked themselves out of their house, and they called to see if he could help them break in. Then he was heading to another neighbor’s home to unclog their only toilet. He said that it was no big deal and it would only take a few minutes; then he headed out the door with a smile.

Two things came to mind:1) What makes people think that my husband knows how to break into people’s homes?; and 2) I couldn’t help think about how lucky I am to have a husband who is willing to drop everything and help our neighbors.

I guess it makes sense that we choose partners and spouses with similar ideals, so it is not surprising that I married a guy who loves our neighborhood as much as I do. As CYCA board members, we agree to spend a certain amount of time serving our community in meetings, fund-raising events, cleanups, more meetings, some social events and follow-up meetings to discuss previous meetings. This means that sometimes we miss dinner or a ball game.

I would like to take this time to personally thank all the spouses and partners of our board members for all their patience and moral support including:Chris McHaney, Ben Boleware, Sydney Ashby, Anna Ritz, Guillermo Umbra, Jonathan Flynt, Scott Massey, Leslie Thompson, Jennifer Word, and an honorable mention to Steve Bishop, our longest-serving board spouse ever. Your love for us and our community help make great things possible. Salute!
