First Thursday Night Out to heat up neighborhood April 5

Help us celebrate the fourth anniversary of the Night Out event on April 5 in Cooper Young.

First Thursday Night Out is when people of all ages get moving to stir up some fun in the historically hip area of Midtown called Cooper-Young.

The party starts at 5 p.m. with specials, live music, drawings and discounts on everything from catfish and bell bottom jeans to toe nail polish and tofu.

Playing at the gazebo starting at 6 p.m.is The Velvet Revolution. This four-piece band will bring the spirit of 1960s to us with their funky British Invasion, American Garage and Pop Rock until 9 pm. Get a listen to the sound of yesterday’s Beatles, Zombies, Yardbirds, Monkees and more.

Artists from the Memphis Art Collective and other area artists will be set up around the gazebo selling their wares. Yelp will be on hand to give away some of their popular schwag. Enter a drawing for a free $100 gift certificate from ARTjamN between 5 and 8 p.m.

By the trestle art, there is a grand opening party at Midtown Motor Werks with live music and refreshments; stop by and meet our newest neighbor, Shane Herbers.

Charm Boutique will raffle gift cards, serving refreshments and showcasing their new spring inventory. At Toad Hall Antiques, get 15 percent off select Easter items as you enjoy free refreshments while you browse. Underground Art has a buy one piercing, get one free (bring a friend) and 10 percent off all tattoos that night. Over at David Perry Smith Gallery, check out this month’s local artist review from 5-8 p.m. The Polish Bottle has Ladies Night Out starting at 4 p.m.; come in and enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Cortona Contemporary Italian is having a Wine Mixer with wines paired with heavy appetizers for a special price and a preview party for Question the Answer jewelry spring collection from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Across the street at Café Ole, stop in for happy hour and get an offering of some amazing discounts on beverages. At 10 p.m., join Café Ole for Jazz and Laffs, a stand-up comedy and live jazz band performance. Celtic Crossing offers the acoustical rock and blues of Jason Evans and Tony Boyd on the patio starting at 6 p.m. as well as half off the Celtic Combo and beverage discounts. Java Cabana has open mic night and discounts on coffee drinks.

Drop the kiddies off at Midtown Martial Arts or Cooper Cottage Daycare to get in on discounted baby care while you enjoy yourself out on the town. Shoenista’s will host a Step into Spring party with wine, desserts and a free gift with every $100 purchase until 8 pm. Sweet Grass and Next Door will offer a tasting menu with wine flight for a discounted price. Beauty Shop has special- priced appetizers and Do Sushi will offer a new sushi roll that night.

Burke’s Book Store has a large assortment of books priced at $1 plus a grand selection of signed titles just in. Central BBQ has half-price nachos as well as discounts on draft. House of Mews is offering 50 perecent off all cat adoptions and 20 percent off retail purchases. Our newest restaurant, Mulan Bistro, is open and the patio is ready.
