Letter from the President: ‘Juned!’
I have to admit that 2012 was a year full of ups and downs for me. On the community side, it was a record-breaking year for the 4-Miler and BeerFest, and CY was named one of the 10 Best Neighborhoods in America. Personally, it was a tough one on many levels … work stress, family stress … .losing, not one, but TWO dogs to cancer (SURPRISE!) within a couple months to round out my year.
After losing Gracie so suddenly, fortunately, I was able to say goodbye to the second dog, Lucky, the right way. After one last perfect weekend together, I was able to let her reunite with her recently lost, longtime friend. Thanks to everyone that showed her love that weekend and tolerated my blubbering … again.
The CYCA Board Retreat in January was a smashing success. We have so many exciting things planned for 2013, and we can’t wait to get you involved! The board even came up with a new term to describe creatively persuading someone to take on or head up a project that they may not normally accept voluntarily. Yes, folks, “June” is now a verb to describe my own particular style of volunteer recruitment. For example: “Wow, Sarah totally ‘Juned’ Wes into taking over the Safety Committee this year!” I wonder who I will “June” into helping me plan the most awesome Art Auction ever!?! Stay tuned …
