Mulan supports Cooper-Young as restaurant turns 1

The mission of the CYCA is to make Cooper-Young a safer and more desirable place to live, worship, work, and play. We do this in a variety of ways including emailing safety alerts as soon as we are aware of an issue (sign up for emails at, advocating for the interests of the neighborhood with local government, partnering with the neighborhood elementary school, sponsoring community events like the Independence Day Parade, fostering the neighborhood’s relationship with local emergency response personnel, funding and maintaining community art and beautification efforts like the Cooper Street trestle, employing a community director to point residents in the right direction when they have questions, sponsoring block clubs, and maintaining community association office space for hosting informational meetings and community events.

But we cannot do the things that make Cooper-Young special without your support. If you have not yet joined the CYCA for 2013, stop what you are doing and join now!

Mulan manager Scott Sitzes said he was excited when Mulan owners Matt Kan and William Zhang decided to open the restaurant in Cooper-Young. He loves the architecture, the neighborhood’s history, the foot traffic, the people, and the festivals, and he described their location in the middle of the action as fun, upbeat and mesmerizing. There is no denying the unique energy of the neighborhood’s main intersection, and Mulan customers can soak that up at an inside table, on the sidewalk patio, or at Mulan’s 16-seat full bar.

Scott notes their bar has Asian beers, sake and Asian-influenced mixed drinks. The menu includes sushi, authentic spicy Szechuan, Mandarin, and Hunan foods. In all, their menu has around 200 menu choices. Mulan even delivers within a five-mile radius and can be reached at 347-3965.

Scott said he hopes “the people of Cooper-Young enjoy us as much as we enjoy the area.” He invites everyone to join Mulan in celebrating both St. Valentine’s Day and Mulan’s one-year anniversary in February. “Thanks to all who have supported us over our first year,” he said.

Join Mulan Bistro in their support of the CYCA, and enjoy 10 percent off your check at Mulan all year long. Interested in knowing about other membership discounts available to CYCA members?
