Peridot boutique opening soon in Cooper-Young
Cooper-Young is putting fashion forward as Peridot, a new boutique clothing and accessories store, plans to make a statement in the neighborhood.
The store will open in early December at 944 S. Cooper at Young, offering women’s pants, skirts, tops, accessories and jewelry, and some men’s accessories like wallets and belts.
Local brands including Thigh High Jeans, hats by Makowsky Millinery and jewelry by designers Carol Cox and Jay Reynolds will be on the shelves, along with art by Tom Foster, who will have his art collection for sale at Peridot, along with other local artisans.
National lines include denim from 7 For All Mankind and Miss Me, shoes from Doc Marten and Redwings, and undergarments from Hanky Panky.
And, like the gemstone its named after, many of the products at Peridot will be green. Jay Reynolds’ jewelry and Thigh High Jeans are made from recycled material — customers can donate gently used jeans to receive 10 percent off any new pair of jeans at the store.
Owner Chantele Aldridge, who moved from Florida to Midtown five years ago while attending graduate school at the University of Memphis, said she chose Cooper-Young because of the energy generated by the neighborhood’s restaurants, but also because she felt there was a need for more retail in Midtown.
