LampLighter Benefactors are Much Appreciated … Again

For the last 24 years, a few dedicated people have put forth great efforts to produce the Cooper-Young LampLighter for our residents and visitors 11 months a year. I have to admit that it is my absolute favorite thing about our neighborhood, and something that I wanted to be involved with from the moment I first joined the CYCA Board.

Over the last few years, it has become more and more difficult to keep the paper afloat due to falling ad sales in a struggling economy. This has warranted numerous discussions on whether it was a good use of the community’s funds to maintain a publication that was losing money most every month. I’m happy to say that at this time, there seems to be a lot of community support for doing just that. In a time where for-profit, print publications are furiously struggling to survive, as your CYCA president, I feel a personal responsibility to keep our non-profit paper going as long as possible. And those that know me well, know how stubborn I can be, so let’s just say that the LampLighter is not going anywhere anytime soon … not on my watch, at least.

Fortunately, due to the creativity and determination of our editor, David Royer, as well as our hardworking ad sales person, Susan Jaynes, for the first time in a few years, the LampLighter is moving in the right direction to making a profit again. Hopefully, as new businesses open in the neighborhood and our local economy continues to grow, more businesses will be willing and able to help support our beloved paper.

For a fourth year in a row, I am asking for a few good souls that are blessed with the means to consider showing their support for our struggling LampLighter. By making a one-time donation of $60 or more or a monthly donation of $5 or more, one can be a LampLighter Benefactor and be listed as such in every issue. We have already gotten commitments from some of the existing LampLighter Benefactors to continue their support, and I hope that others decide to continue also. There’s always room for more!

If you would like to become a LampLighter Benefactor or are choosing to continue to be one, you can go to www.cooperyoung.org and click on the LampLighter Benefactor link under Membership & Gifts.
