The Hub Automotive joins CYCA sponsors

As 2013 comes to a close, the Cooper-Young Community Association (CYCA) is already thinking about 2014.

We will be replacing trees on Cooper Street to fill in a couple of missing ginkgos, we plan to celebrate the completion of the McLean and Barksdale murals, we’ll continue to cover up neighborhood graffiti, gauge resident opinions on neighborhood developments, help lost pets find their way home through email alerts and social network posts, advocate for Cooper-Young with local entities, host informational meetings, and bring you the events you love like the Art for Art’s Sake Auction, July 4th neighborhood parade, Festival Friday 4-Miler, and Cooper-Young Regional Beerfest.

We’ll continue to celebrate localtivtiy and the special things happening in our great neighborhood.  You can be part of it by joining the CYCA to support our mission to make Cooper-Young a safer and more desirable place to live, worship, work, and play. Not only will you be part of this progressive organization, but you’ll get access to the great local discounts listed in this newspaper.

To sweeten the deal, we recently welcomed our newest membership sponsor: The Hub Automotive.

The Hub is located at 2200 York Ave. at the corner of York and Meda, and is owned by Midtown residents Andrew and Jennifer Brunson. Andrew and Jennifer are excited about being part of the Cooper-Young community.

“What is there not to love!” Jennifer Brunson said. “We love the people, the diversity, the incredible welcome we received! We just love everything about Cooper-Young.”

And they’re showing the love by offering free tire rotation and free courtesy checks (tires and fluid, check/top off) whenever a CYCA membership card is presented.

If you’d like to know more about The Hub, check out their website at There you’ll learn that Andrew was formally trained as a mechanic at American Motor Institute and has 24 years of automotive experience including work in small shops and large dealerships. He knows how to work on domestic and foreign cars and maintains certification as an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Automobile Technician.

The pair feels that because Andrew started out as a mechanic first, then became a business owner later, he has a more customer-oriented approach. He will happily explain all aspects of the work they are doing in down-to-earth terms that the mechanically challenged can understand. Along with Jennifer, his hope is that they can provide an experience to their customers that will instill trust, provide a positive encounter, and foster a long-term relationship.

The Hub is a full-service shop and can handle everything from routine oil changes to computer and electrical system diagnostics and repair to fuel economy issues for most makes and models. In addition to the Brunsons, technicians Taylor and, most recently added to the team, Pierre are there to provide service.

“We are trying to grow while maintaining our small town feel and service,” Jennifer said.

On a personal note, Andrew and Jennifer have three children from 6 to 16 years old. Andrew is from North Carolina but has been in Memphis, where Jennifer was born and raised, for 12 years. Jennifer has a master’s degree in social work and has worked with families to navigate the foster care and juvenile justice systems. She and Andrew hope you will stop in and get to know them, maybe while taking advantage of the free tire rotation and courtesy checks. If you’d rather call, the number is 901-725-1352.  When you do, please thank them for their support of the CYCA.

If you would like to join The Hub Automotive’s owners, Andrew and Jennifer Brunson, by supporting the CYCA, December is the perfect time to do it. It’s membership renewal time, so join or renew your membership now to enjoy all the membership benefits from the first day of 2014 to the last. You can join online at, fill out the membership form in this paper, call our executive director at 901-272-2922, or stop by the office during business hours at 2298 Young Ave.

Think your neighbors might be interested in the history or support of Cooper-Young?  Buy them a gift membership or a Cooper-Young history book (available at our office or at another of our membership sponsors: Burke’s Books), and remind them why life is good in Cooper-Young. Happy holidays!
