Donate home furnishings for refugees

World Relief Memphis will host a Spring Cleaning Donations Drive, April 1-3 at Union Avenue Baptist Church, to provide your gently used home furnishings to recent refugees.

World Relief is funded largely by grants to resettle refugees fleeing persecution from countries such as Iraq, Somalia and Sudan. World Relief is responsible for providing housing, social services, cultural orientation and pathways to employment for refugees new to Memphis. Although all refugees receive a modest sum from the U.S. government to furnish their new home, it is not enough to cover all expenses. So World Relief seeks donated furniture and household items in order for refugees to save their money for more pressing needs.

As an organization driven by faith, World Relief works to call and equip the church to demonstrate the biblical notion of hospitality to strangers. Refugees bring vibrant diversity to Memphis and we want to welcome them.

Needed items to furnish homes include sofas, chairs, end tables, dressers, kitchen tables, lamps and microwaves. World Relief will accept any of these gently used items. World Relief’s office is located right here in Midtown at Union Avenue Baptist Church, 2181 Union. Items can be dropped off in the parking lot of the church on April 1 or 3 from 4-6 p.m. or April 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Needed items can also be purchased at World Relief’s Amazon Wish List. For a full list of items and more information, visit or call 901-341-0225.
