As summer winds down, the annual Cooper-Young Festival is just around the corner, with the Cooper-Young 4 Miler race set set kick things off on Friday, September 12.
Runners, that means its time to start training now. Registration is open now for the race. Runners can register online at cooperyoung4miler.racesonline.com. Registration fee is $30.
Volunteers are also needed throughout the week for the race and the festival. Anyone wanting to help out can view volunteer opportunities and signup online at vols.pt/Emy6zS.
But even if you’re not running or volunteering, there’s still a way for you to participate in the 4-Miler. One of the unique aspects of the race is the Light the Way parties held along the race route that help spur the runners on to victory. Residents of the neighborhood pick a theme and dress up their yards with lights and decorations and set chairs up on the sidewalk to greet the thousands of runners as they come by. Participating in Light the Way is free except for the cost of throwing the party, but the Cooper-Young Community Association does present a prize to the best party. To be eligible for the contest, register your party at the CYCA office before the race.
