Young Artist Contest winners announced

The Cooper Young Business Association is proud to announce this year’s winners of the 2014 Young Artist Contest.

This post-festival event is held annually to encourage the love of art in school age children residing in the Mid-South. The CYBA received 183 entries from throughout the county for the contest, which had a theme of “Cooper-Young: Historically Hip.” A reception for winners was held at Peabody Elementary located at 2086 Young Avenue on Thursday, November 6, 2014.

This contest is open to children, all over Memphis and surrounding communities, grades 1-12 and is sponsored by Evolve Bank and Trust. First, second, third, and honorable mention prizes were awarded in three grade brackets: 1st-4th, 5th-8th, and 9th-12th. First place winners received $500, second place $100, third place $75, and honorable mention $50.

This year’s winners are:

Grades 1-4

First Place: Emelia Wee, Riverdale Elementary

Second Place: Meg He, Riverdale Elementary

Third Place: Jed Steward, Peabody Elementary

Honorable Mention: Tyler Malone, Macon-Hall Elementary

Grades 5-8

First Place: Chelsi Toombs, Colonial Middle

Second Place: Ashley Traylor, Snowden School

Third Place: Deunte Montague, Willow Oaks Elementary

Honorable Mention: Jacqueline Jones, Colonial Middle

Grade 9-12

First Place: Marcos Salamanca, Wooddale High School

Second Place: Fabian Lopez, Oakhaven High School

Third Place: Kenneth Pendleton, Jr., Central High School

Honorable Mention: Jafa Saeidi, Central High School
