On March 12 at 7 p.m. at the Kroc Center, the Memphis Music Commission will present the 6th Annual Emissaries of Memphis Music awards. The event honors the extraordinary contributions of Memphis women in music. Honorees include some of the city’s most influential women in the arts, ranging from music artists to industry professionals. The honorees have all excelled in their fields and acted as ambassadors for Memphis music and the city’s creative culture.
Emmy Award winning WMC-TV anchor Joe Birch will host the event with proceeds benefitting the Memphis Musicians Healthcare Plan which provides Memphis musicians with “no cost” access to medical care. For the price of an admission ticket to this event—$50—, Memphians can help support healthcare costs for a musician for one month.
The 2015 honorees include: Carol Rakestraw, Michelle, Yvonne and Lorraine Mitchell, Pat Mitchell Worley, Sandy Carroll, and Tracy Bethea. Two new honors will also be unveiled at this year’s celebration: the People’s Choice Award and The Emissaries’ Choice Award.
General admission tickets are available at www.MemphisMusic.org, or at the Music Commission’s office.
