The annual Cooper-Young 4 Miler race is just around the corner, and it is time for all runners, volunteers, and partiers to being making plans.

The annual race through the historic Cooper-Young neighborhood, to be held this year on Friday, September 18th, is the unofficial kickoff to the Cooper-Young Festival. Every year, nearly 2,500 participants experience a nice evening run through our neighborhood and get to see how much we all love Cooper-Young and everyone who comes to visit.

There are three awesome ways to get involved:

1. Run the race: Race registration is currently open and runners can sign-up online at cooperyoung4miler.racesonline.com. It only costs $30 to sign up, and you get one of our gorgeous long sleeve running shirts with our unique 2015 design.

2. Volunteer: Our race is almost entirely supported by volunteers, and we have so many ways that you can help out. You can check out the list of positions and sign up at http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/441002162041 (or find the link on our Facebook page). You can always call in at the office to find out more, just give us a shout at 901-272-2922.

3. Throw a party: The real secret to why our race is the best one, people all over Cooper-Young through awesome parties — “Light the Way” parties — for runners as they pass through the neighborhood. Some organizers pick a theme and go over the top while others keep it simple. It doesn’t matter as long as everyone has a great time cheering on the runners. We love our “Light the Way” parties so much that we have a friendly competition with rewards for the top three parties. To be eligible for the contest, just register your party with the CYCA office by calling in, emailing us at info@cooperyoung.org, or dropping by our office Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Every registered party will even receive one free entry to the race so you can cheer on your favorite runner. — K.S.
