Letter From the president: Festival time beckons

Festival time is here and the excitement is in the air! I’m getting all the pre-festival/4 Miler phone calls involving everything from questions about the race route and race registration pricing, to calls about getting the elusive last minute festival booth. That one is a lost cause, I’m afraid, and the CYCA doesn’t run the festival anyway. Really, people. It’s the business association. Every. Year.

Although the festival is a long, hard day for me, I love so many things about it. I love seeing people that I only see at festival or people that I haven’t seen in years. I love perusing the various artists from the region and rediscovering our local artists from the heart of Cooper-Young. My favorite game is trying to figure out the latest and greatest art trend. I remember the year that zombie art hit the festival. There were zombie sculptures and yard art as far as the eye could see.

I love the music. I love working the CYCA booth and getting to talk to people about our amazing neighborhood. I love the guy that walks around with a sign offering “free hugs,” and I get one every year I see him. I hope everyone enjoys all that Cooper-Young offers that weekend and don’t forget to register for the Festival 4-Miler soon before they sell out! See you all there!
