Cooper-Young feeds the need

November is a wonderful month to give thanks and help provide for others in our community. In memory of longtime community volunteer Suzzane Striker, the Cooper-Young Community Association is once again excited to organize our annual drive to support our own neighborhood food pantry at First Congo’s Food Ministry. This wonderful organization helps support over 150 of our neighbors each week through meal programs and over 350 families during their monthly grocery distribution. Dry and canned items are always welcome as are cash donations. Many clients are able to purchase groceries at the Mid-South Food Bank at about 7 cents per pound, so cash can help spread the support even further.

There are three ways that you can get involved. First, we need help delivering flyers about the food drive a couple weeks before the drive itself. To sign up for a route and arrange to pick up flyers, call the CYCA office at 272-2922 or email info@cooperyoung.org.

Second, on the day of the food drive, Saturday, November 21st, you can fill a grocery bag with non-perishable food and place it on your curb by 9 a.m. for pickup.

Finally, you can go to firstcongo.com/supportfirstcongo/ and make a donation. We’re excited to help support our neighbors and we hope you are, too! — Kristen Schebler
