Letter from the president: Kickstarting 2016

June is feeling rejuvenated in the New Year ... though it might just be the beer diet.

June is feeling rejuvenated in the New Year … though it might just be the beer diet.

It’s 2016 already, and the CYCA is gearing up for an exciting year! Another board retreat has come and gone, and along with some new blood joining the board, we have a lot to be excited about! I feel rejuvenated physically and mentally, and I’m ready to kickstart some new projects as well as finish some long overdue ones.

Some other cool happenings: A number of residents have taken the initiative to start a thriving Garden Club, and our own Aaron James has taken on the huge task of organizing a Cooper-Young Neighborhood Watch. I would like to thank everyone that has stepped up over the past few months to assist with these projects and joined the front lines of making our neighborhood even better.

On a personal note, my dogs have finally made some sort of peace with my treadmill and no longer bark at it the entire time I am on it. I have also managed to work a reasonable amount of beer into my Weight Watchers plan, while still allowing me to lose some weight. You know what that means? Yes, I will be attending the Half Pints for Half Pints fundraiser on February 6th at Memphis Made Brewing Company benefitting the half pints at Peabody Elementary! I hope you can make it, too!

Cheers to 2016! — June Hurt
