Revolutions brings around bike camps

First Congo’s Revolutions Bicycle Cooperative is hosting its first ever summer camps this June.

The inaugural Wrench & Ride Bicycle Summer Camp will be broken up into three five-day sessions for different age groups: 4th-6th graders, June 6th-10th; 7th-9th graders, June 13th-17th; and 10th-12th graders, June 20th-24th. All sessions last 8 a.m.-noon.

All campers will spend time in the Revolutions shop learning the basics of bicycle maintenance, including how to change a flat, clean your chain, and getting comfortable with keeping your bicycle in good working order. All campers will work on their own bicycles. Older campers will also work on a classroom set of bicycles, for extra practice. The oldest group of campers will even move on to more complicated tasks like bearing systems, drivetrains, and brakes by working on some adult bikes.

Campers will also spend part of the morning riding in the neighborhood. Later in the week, they will venture farther afield. They will work on how to plan a good riding route and the basics of road riding rules and skills.

Tuition is $150. That covers a healthy snack, water, all activities, and a camp t-shirt. Scholarships are available.
