During the evening, the Music Society will present its Award of Distinction to Gene Rush, professor emeritus of jazz and studio music at the U of M. In a career that has spanned nearly four decades, he has appeared on 23 albums and performed with many international recording artists, from John Abercrombie to Attila Zoller. Rush has also arranged and conducted recording sessions for Roberta Flack, Cybill Shepherd, and other popular artists.
A former governor of the Memphis chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), he served as chairman of the chapter’s arranging/composing craft committee for 10 years.
