Amazing Grace: A benefit for Virginia Grace

By Staff on September 3, 2010

By Courtney Miller Santo
Virginia Grace Sumner-Winter is five years old. She just started kindergarten at Peabody Elementary, loves dinosaurs, helping her mother cook, and has a smile that matches the intensity of her flame-colored hair. She also has Pierre Robin Sequence and a unique chromosomal addition (14q). There is truly no one else like VeeGee.
The [...]

By Staff on September 3, 2010

By Cindy Metcalf
Alzheimer’s Day Services of Memphis (ADS) was founded by four families who needed help caring for their loved ones with Alzheimer’s. The Things You Can do With a Bicycle

By Jonathan McCarver on April 7, 2010

It’s kind of a dreary day and I wanted to ride my bike to work today but the forecast calls for rain all afternoon. Hopefully I can bring it to work tomorrow but until then I want to share a video that has continued to inspire me since I first saw it a few years [...]

Combating stress with movement

By Staff on March 28, 2010

By Tara Taylor

How do you handle stress? By overeating/drinking, sleeping, exercise? According to many studies, the best way to cope with our stressful world is through physical activity.
For the past 17 years, April has been given the distinctive honor of being “Stress Awareness Month.” For April, doctors and health and fitness professionals are teaming [...]

What is Parkour?

By Jonathan McCarver on March 12, 2010

This post is pretty much just for me. I doubt anyone reading here would know the word parkour to be asking about it but odds are if you work in an office then someone has sent you a video of people doing crazy climbing and stunts. These are often labeled with something like free running, russian climbing, urban climbing, freestyle walking, parkour or crazy indian monkey man . These amazing videos will feature things that nearly no one can do because the people in them are the best in the world.

Massage therapy may be the answer to pain

By Patrick on February 28, 2010

By Leah Bray Nichols
I found out the hard way that trying to do everything all at once can come with a price. Living in a state of stress leads not only to short-term tension, but it can also create long-term pain.
My constant anxiety as a 32-year-old undergraduate student led to chronic pain that kept me [...]

The truth about cardio

By Patrick on February 28, 2010

By Scott Lebowitz
What’s so great about cardio?
First of all, aerobic exercise (meaning with oxygen) as defined by The Academy of Sports Medicine is “any activity that uses large muscle groups, can be maintained continuously, and is rhythmic in nature.” Simply put, large muscles, like your legs, require large amounts of energy to work. When you [...]
